Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Septum.

Most clients report a quick, sharp pinch rather than prolonged pain. Sensitivity varies, but the procedure is fast and performed with gentle technique. Expect soreness for a few days; following aftercare guidance greatly reduces discomfort and speeds healing.

Initial healing usually occurs within four to eight weeks, but full maturation can take three to six months depending on anatomy and care. Follow our aftercare routine, avoid unnecessary jewelry changes, and attend follow-ups to support consistent, healthy healing.

We recommend implant-grade titanium, niobium, or 14–18k solid gold for initial jewelry due to low allergy risk and biocompatibility. Avoid plated or low-quality metals during healing. Our studio stocks approved materials and can advise the best option for your anatomy and sensitivities.

No — you should not change jewelry immediately. The starter piece is selected to support healing and minimize irritation. Changing it too early risks tissue trauma and infection. Schedule a follow-up with us to safely switch jewelry once your septum has sufficiently healed.

Most septum piercings are placed through the soft tissue beneath the cartilage, leaving minimal visible scarring when healed. Scarring varies by individual and care. If you remove jewelry, the hole can shrink or close, often leaving little or no permanent mark.

Avoid touching or twisting the jewelry, swimming in pools or hot tubs, heavy makeup around the area, and frequent jewelry changes. Smoke and excessive alcohol can slow healing. Follow cleansing instructions, and contact us if you notice redness, swelling, or unusual discharge for prompt care.
